School & Library Presentations
Be prepared to have your students experience the wondrous world of the Mexica/Aztecs in a presentation of ancient poetry, narratives, oral tradition stories, and ballads. Throughout this cultural/educational program you and your students will learn about the history, philosophy, language, culture, ceremonies, traditions, foods, and arts of the Mexica/Aztecs from the indigenous perspective. Michael Heralda brings and utilizes many hand-made indigenous styled instruments and allows your students the opportunity for interactive, improvisational participation. This tactile experience supports and bridges the learning process to the physical experience of playing the instruments - they have a physical connection to the stories.
There are many ways for students to learn. Through the medium of music, especially as utilized in the "Aztec Stories" program, your students will come away with a new sense of pride, honor, and respect for this incredible culture. For those students who are connected to this culture it also solidifies and strengthens their self-esteem and helps develop a foundation for self-awareness.
Your students will learn to sing songs in the Nahuatl language. They will learn about the ancient instruments. They will learn about the connection that men and women share with all elements of nature. They will get a view of the Mexica/Aztec world that few can witness without the aid of an experienced guide.
Michael has fine-tuned his program for any age group. He has presented his "Aztec Stories"
program to many schools (K-12) throughout California, and recently in states as far from
California as Minnesota, Illinois, Connecticut, New Mexico, and Mexico.
Michael Heralda’s “Aztec Stories” program is “Edu-tainment”
in the truest sense of the word.
